Design: Nueve Estudio
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Location: Spain

The Generalitat Valenciana commissioned us to renew the brand of the Institut Valencia de la Joventut (IVAJ).

The IVAJ is the agency responsible coordinating youth policy in the Valencian Community. Among the main functions of this agency are the defense of social rights and freedoms of young people, the promotion of youth participation and support for their structures, to prompt the provision of services for the youth, or to encourage educational leisure activities.

The IVAJ needed a brand that would combine all the competencies of this organization, such as education in values, engagement, public service, and educational leisure, and also that would coexist with the rest of sub-brands of existing programs – such as Xarxa Jove, Viu, Tema Jove… – and with the Generalitat Valenciana own brand.

For this, we created a brand that would enhance and highlight the values for which the institution works. A purely typographical brand focused on the acronym IVAJ and inspired by sport as a symbol of positive values: participation, union, teamwork, integration, companionship, coexistence, cooperation, social responsibility, effort …

An outright brand, in white and black, with a clear, direct typography and with a secondary color range for graphic applications. Violet, orange and green complement the universe created for the institution. A purely typographical and colorful universe. The typeface used is Linotype’s Swiss 721.

Manufacturer Dolci Fonderie Ciomod SRL
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Location: Modica (RG) - Italy
Packaging Contents: Chocolate bar
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Recycled cardboard, paper and aluminium paper.
Printing Process: Letterpress printing

The rediscovery of the origins is our new exciting journey.

A new project, a new challenge, a more accurate selection of raw materials, a meticulous control over the production chain, a wrapper made entirely by hand , a recycled and recyclable cardboard, virtuous example of legal and sustainable economy.

The handmade project was born from the desire to experiment and to become increasingly involved in the processing of our chocolate: in our new workshop we start the production from the selection of cocoa beans and from processing of single origin cocoa masses.

In this occasion the refined cocoa selected meets raw materials of excellence, which represent Sicily and its ancient agricultural and culinary tradition: DOP oil of the Hyblaean mountains, Trapani’ salt, Ciaculli mandarin, carob honey of Sicilian black bee, Sesame of Ispica, (they boast of slow food protection), wild thyme, are all ingredients that become the protagonists of our new bars.

The goal is to bring out the flavor and aroma of each of the single products that we choose and helping to introduce them for their specific and unique features. Arauca chocolate and Huila chocolate complete the “handmade” line, two bars processed directly from Colombian cocoa beans. The choose of Colombian cocoa is not accidental, far from it.

Just over two years ago, we became aware of a project carried out in this country. Since about five years ago, in Colombia, thanks to a cooperation program, there is a conversion of coke plantations in cocoa plantations.

A bet like this has meant that many associations and farmers fighting the guerrillas, witnessing scenes of violence, fighting against the rampant cultivation of coke. During our trip to this land, we had the possibility to know some of the people who believed and invested in the reconversion, putting also themselves in the frontline when, above all, to the dawns nothing was simple and all seemed an utopia.

We fell in love of this history and we wanted to embrace this project without any hesitation.

The dream of Elisabeth Agudelo with is Villa Gaby, Gonzalo Tavera Cruz and his Asoprolan Productores, La Manigua, El Colaboratorio, deserves to be known and favored to allow that all the efforts done till now, finally, can succeed.

For these reasons, we have chosen the charm and the contradictions of the Colombian cocoa.

Because the good thing is also the correct thing.

Mistral Cereals

Design: Getbrand
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Mistral
Location: Moscow, Russia
Packaging Contents: Oatmeal
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Cardboard

A task:
The main problem was the wrong communication with the consumer: the packaging depicted various supplements and fruits that were not inside. Those who searched for cereals with flavors, eventually became disappointed, and those who wanted to buy a simple oatmeal, was just passing by. As a result, the product was losing its buyer. The mock-up of the package also had a number of shortcomings. A small logo huddled in the corner. The inscription "Hot breakfast - healthy day" merged and was difficult to perceive. Due to the density and congestion of the text, it was difficult to understand what kind of product it actually was and why it was worth buying.

It was necessary to make communication more distinct and charismatic, without losing the corporate stylistics of "Mistral".

Decision:
First we determined the positioning of the product: oatmeal is a quick and useful breakfast for the whole family. This is the basic product to start a perfect day. Morning associated with a yellow color and bright sun rays. At the bottom of the package we placed a large bowl with an appetizing hot porridge, which is enough to save energy until lunch.

The brand element of "Mistral" - a colored ribbon - helps to distinguish different types of cereals within the same line. It became an active element in the design, highlighting the main compositional blocks: logo, product name and the inscription "Useful family breakfast". Due to a clear structure, all important information can be easily read. The image of the cereals at the top of the package renders the usefulness and naturalness of the ingredients.

The peculiarity of Mistral flakes is the use of the unique BIO STEAM technology, thanks to which the use of whole grains is preserved as much as possible during processing. We highlighted this information on the front of the package.

Due to pictograms and infographics, all the advantages of the product are revealed to the buyer in an easy and accessible way.

On the reverse side we described the idea "Together even tastier": thanks to toppings, which perfectly match with porridge, breakfast becomes brighter and tastier. Using the ribbon to demonstrate a diverse range of additives, we offer the buyer a scope for experiments and finding favorite combinations of tastes.

"Mistral" cereals are an excellent choice for a healthy breakfast for the whole family, each of which can pick up its favorite toppings. Start the day with a plate of your favorite porridge in the company of your loved ones!

In order to reposition its different rums on the international market, the distillery asked LINEA - the design agency from the Spirits Valley - to revamp the brand identity and the line of packaging. The graphical work has endeavoured to get back the brand credibility through three wills. Firstly, modernizing the creation with more topical structures. Secondly, keeping the soul of the brand with guarantee elements that make it unique, for example, reintroducing the signature of Laurie Barnard - the distillery founder and prominent rum expert according to her peers. And finally, asserting the international dimension of the range leading it to represent Santa-Lucia's rums all around the word.

Graphic design: Agnes Beke
Project Type: Concept
Location: Budapest, Hungary

BRAND CONCEPT
We developed several brand names and concepts for a new premium tea collection in Hungary. Our I’M TEA concept conquered them all, reflecting on the deeply intimate feeling and gentle mindfulness you can experience
over a steamy cup of tea.

VISUAL IDENTITY
We recreated this heart-to-heart feeling with soft pastell colors, a touch of gold and feminine illustrations. Every tea blend got a different color and style so you can easily find the one that suits your mood the best. The illustrations are an exciting mixture of hand-drawn pictures and vector based graphics. We designed various fruits tangled in the character’s hair to reflect on the all-natural ingredients – and also on the colorful and constantly changing places our mind can wonder over a cup of tea.

Unfortunately, this lovely tea brand never reached the shelves in the stores - but we absolutely loved working on it.

Packaging Substrate / Materials: Paper, glass, plastic

Bee Naturalles was founded by Giorgos Athanassiadis and Chara Mangana, in Euboea island, with the mission to combine traditional knowledge with scientific methods and put into practice their motto ‘enclosing nature’. The product portfolio of the company comprises of more than 20 products using only unprocessed natural ingredients, such as organic apiculture products, plant extracts and essential oils. When they came to our first meeting they had already been in business for more than three years, yet felt the need to rebrand and reposition Bee Naturalles as a natural laboratory brand, rather than a handmade business.

One of the ‘weak spots’ of Bee Naturalles’ brand was that all products had the same package design although they had different uses, resulting in consumer confusion. So we suggested dividing the product line into three sub-product lines; skin care, healing and edible respectively. To make this distinction visually apparent to customers, a set of three signs has been introduced into the packages’ (re)branding. These signs are inspired by Bee Naturalles’ motto ‘enclosing nature’. More specifically, they comprise of three B’s written in different fonts based on the category they represent. The letter N, which represents Nature, moves into different positions around letter B to further underline the distinction between the categories. The positions of N are not arbitrary; they are placed on the corners of a hypothetical hexagon as a reference to bees’ hexagonal-shaped wax shells. Also each category is indicated by the use of different colors; that is blue-green for healing, orange for edible and warm red for cosmetics. Apart from some pieces of information, such as products’ ingredients or effect, that has been highlighted in color, the dominant color of the package design is white, to create the impression of laboratory cleanliness and purity.

MBody

Design: ButterflyCannon
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Walgreens Boots Alliance
Location: London, UK
Packaging Contents: Protein powders
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Plastic

ButterflyCannon have created the brand positioning, identity, naming and packaging design for Walgreens Boots Alliance’s new wellness range, a collection of three protein powders that are both disruptive whilst feeling approachable and deliciously healthy.

The brand is targeted at women under 30 looking to live well and tone up, aiming to attract health-conscious women rather than the fitness fanatics. The MBody consumer is active on social media, following influencers and sharing experiences and finds with friends. Instagram-friendly packaging was a must to help spread the word.

It was obvious from the start that the current brands on offer tended to communicate an intimidating, overly masculine aesthetic which didn’t appeal to the needs of our less obsessed consumer.

Anna Lamburn, Senior Designer at ButterflyCannon adds, “Women consider wellness to be a combination of exercise, nutrition, mental wellness and health, so it was important our brand felt like it could fit into this mindset, and not push scientific results or the performance enhancement angle.”

Tapping into the trend of colourful eating and celebrating healthy foods, the design shows an abundance of healthy ingredients coming together on pack. The illustration style feels natural, healthy, fresh and delicious, reflecting the brand truth of real ingredients rather than artificial flavourings.

The natural illustration style is balanced with the introduction of a central panel on pack to deliver clear, concise information to the consumer. The aim was to strip away copy and keep it simple and understandable to offer a nice balance of naturalness vs. benefits.

The brand name was born from the idea of holistic health and wellbeing. The MBody consumer is in touch with her health and her body, and feels in charge of her diet choices and fitness regime. Mbody felt like a perfect way to capture this idea, and gave us an opportunity for an ownable and distinct wordmark.

Jon Davies, Creative Director at ButterflyCannon, said “We love creating brands from the ground up, it challenges us to think both creatively and commercially. MBody was a perfect opportunity for us to demonstrate our approach in building successful brands.”

Emma Godman, Marketing Manager at Walgreens Boots Alliance adds, “The ButterflyCannon team brought great consumer understanding to the project to create a beautiful, modern design that has tested really positively with our target consumer.”
