Packaging for baby fragrances. Inditex (Zara)
ZARA KIDS is a fragrance for children between the ages of 3 and 14. We were asked to come up with two illustrations/characters that were fun and attractive, spoke to a child’s visual language and that also clearly differentiate boys from girls. We created a bunny and a robot with carefully selected colour palettes to fulfill these requirements. In addition to this solution, we had a special interest in giving the characters on the packaging a playful spin (literally) instead of just being attractive protective casing that is thrown away once opened. We came up with the idea, through using cardboard tubes, to rotate the lid so that the eyes of each character changes with each turn. A nice little touch is that the positioning of the lids is not fixed to the base of the tube, which means that each reference lines up differently at the point of sale.

The Brief
To create the brand identity of Basic Naturals, a brand new series of 100% natural handmade skin care products. Crafted in small batches in Connecticut, USA, Basic Naturals use only the finest organic ingredients Nature has to offer and are created exclusively on the basis of time-proven, mild production techniques.

The Design Concept & Design
Given the brand name, our design strategy was based on the vision and passion of the brand's founder, Yaniv Ben-David. The spark came from the inspiration he drew from Mother Nature, followed by his pledge to strictly stick to what Mother Nature only knows best.

The visual identity and label design of the brand had to respect its origins and sufficiently reflect the philosophy behind it. And so it does. The primary colours are evidently earthly – ochre and black take center stage. The typography employed denotes a handwriting style, while still being clear, simple and very legible. The brand’s logo incorporates in the word ‘BASIC’ the element of a flower pot in the shape of an inverted ‘A’ – the Calendula flower in the pot, constituting a wink to the first product created, based on this very plant. Finally, the design of all individual products integrates an original pictogram-illustration that relates directly to what the product is and does.

Direct, stripped-down and uncontrived, accessible and down-to-earth, the brand’s visual language does indeed justice to its story, philosophy and values – carrying its message across in an unmistakably clear way.

A bold and special approach
No element referring to honey was used in the packaging design. The illustration was based on the free rendering of a fresco of the Minoan era. We used intense earthy colors that, combined with the use of the wooden lid, make up the very intense and distinct visual identity of the product.

From the third generation of Italian immigrants in Brazil, Valentim Scarpato spent years crushing grapes during his childhood to help his grandfather in wine production. After 50 years he decided to continue the family tradition. As soon as he retired from the blacksmith profession in 1998, he began to produce craft wine to pass the time. Valentim used to produce 2,000 bottles per season, which were sold only to his friends.

Today at the age of 94, he can't help to produce anymore. But with the knowledge over the years, his sons are keeping the family tradition. To this special edition of only 600 bottles, I was asked to translate the history on the label without look like an old or historic wine.

Creative Agency: Rocklin
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Mir Vkusa
Location: Israel / Poland
Packaging Contents: Cheese

Montblanc is a new brand of cheese produced in a shape of traditional square cheese blocks.

The Rocklin team created a special romantic legend — a sort of "brand's mythology". One can imagine such a story: Europe; early age of aeronautics; a brave man is sent on a balloon trip... Somewhere around Mont Blanc he stops for a rest (say, in a tiny Alpine village), and he is lucky to taste the local Montblanc cheese. The taste of this cheese will remain for years as a remembrance of the journey.

The visual concept is created in a highly detailed and exquisite vintage style, reminding somehow the world of Jules Verne and this amazing epoch in the European life.

Brief: Create a brand personality and identity system for a new whisky that is hitting the market in the UK next year. It’s called Elephant Whisky. Elephant differentiates itself by being distilled only in India and is one of the very few Indian Whiskies imported into this country. Extend the brand into the physicality of it’s packaging and environment with due consideration to target audiences and any rituals that may be associated/appropriate and probably differentiate between the two products and potentially different target audiences.

A unique whiskey, hand-crafted with compassion, matured to perfection , tasted and blended by experts for one purpose - To reunite kin, companions and nations.

We bring to you Elephant Whiskey from the war-grounds of Kalinga. It is not just a drink, it is a testimony against war.

The brand identity and packaging has been devised keeping the brand values and personality in mind, while also making sure it integrates with the brand story. A story of two warring armies who change their ways after witnessing an act of utmost compassion by the war elephants and decide to make a drink to honour them.A local brew - a rich whiskey, spicy like pepper in the throat at first and then mellow and intriguing, just like the history of this region.

There are two products - A 20 year Single Malt and a Blended Whiskey. The target audience for both - An elite upper class of individuals who care and dare to change the world. They are passionate, zealous and honourable.

Packaging Contents: English Whisky Liqueur
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Glass

Hart & Jones have developed the brand platform, brand identity and packaging for Sacred Spirits Company’s English Whisky Liqueur, launching in the UK, US and Europe this year.

Sacred are well known for their award winning, small batch, aromatic gins, vodkas and vermouths. Proud to distill and hand finish each element at their Highgate microdistillery, this pioneering London team set their sights on applying their skills to a Whisky liqueur and recruited design agency Hart & Jones to tell their story.

Simon Jones, co-founder of Hart & Jones, commented; “There are a wealth of individual messages around a brand as differentiated as Sacred’s whisky: its Highgate provenance the eccentricity of the people behind it, all combined with the curious botanicals and production methods. However we didn’t want yet another over-complicated ‘storytelling’ brand but an iconic presence that hints at all the mysteries without spelling them out.”

Sacred have a strong presence in the top tier on trade and so standout at back of bar was vital. Hart & Jones crafted an iconic butterfly that displays across two bottles to symbolize the unique brand components.

Sacred’s English Whisky Liqueur is first aged in bourbon casks and finished by hand in Spanish PX sherry casks by Ian Hart at the Sacred Microdistillery in London’s Highgate.

“From the moment we saw Ian’s still, we knew we had to seize the eccentricity, craft and enthusiasm it provoked” says Chris Hart, creative partner but no relation to Sacred’s owner. “Our team have created a visually arresting pack which is both curious and beautiful, capturing the intricacies of this exceptional product and is perfect for Sacred’s premium positioning”

“There are exciting opportunities for whisky at present” believes Ian Hart, “we expect to see trends such as no age statements, flavoured whiskies and unique origins, gaining momentum in 2017, and with the first London bottled English Whisky Liqueur we hope we are leading the way into undiscovered territory.”

Sacred’s co-founder, Hilary Whitney, adds “Hart & Jones immediately impressed me with how quickly they got to the heart of our concept and then subsequently translated this into a compelling brand identity and iconic pack design”.

Sacred’s English Whisky Liqueur, the first of three whiskies by Sacred, officially launches Autumn 2017 and will be exclusively available at specially selected outlets from May 2017.

Hart & Jones are a branding and packaging design agency, who encode design with messages and images that resonate.

Creative Agency: talc design studio
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: D-mod
Location: Athens, Greece
Packaging Contents: Table Lamps, Floor Lamps
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Paper
Printing Process: Box manufacturing

Dmod design and produce furniture, light fixtures and objects. The characteristics that define their creations is the use of raw materials (wood, steel, cement), modularity, customizability and the promotion of the element of usability through basic structures.

We proceeded with the same values in designing a series of packaging for their objects.

Counter intuitively, the first decision made was that any packaging solution should include the support needed in order to be transferred by the client (without the need of a bag). By studying the center of gravity in conjunction with the basic lines defined by the objects, the packaging was “built” while keeping in mind the various shapes and sizes of lamp choices (3 different options). Thus the exterior of each box was shaped according to the various needs of the internal arrangement.

In all cases the result is sculptural, centered on the form and the use. The surfaces are raw and the design is deliberately focusing mainly to box manufacturing.
