IKIGAI, Japanese Happoshu low- and non-alcoholic versions

Agency: Studio Blackthorns
Creative director: Ludovic Mornand
Location: France
Project Type: Concept
Packaging Contents: Japanese Happoshu
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Can
Printing Process: Digital printing

Ikigai (生き甲斐) is a Japanese concept that means "a reason for being." Iki meaning "life; alive" and kai meaning "effect;result;benefit;". My concept was to design two different versions of this Happoshu beverage: a low-malt beer version and an alcohol-free one. There are two different organic shapes on the light and the dark design. On the black can, we can see a circle with nice modern gradient effects. This shape reminds us of the Japanese flag. For the white non-alcoholic drink the circle expanded and reveals a different shape. Different designs have been made on the 500ml and 330ml cans to give more dynamism and character to the range.

Design: Atipus
Location: Spain
Project Type: Produced
Client: Celler Masroig
Product Launch Location: Europe
Packaging Contents: Wine
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Glass Bottle
Printing Process: Printing: 4 colours - Offset, on metallic paper. Special metallic ink (scratch-off) applied using screen printing

The Catalan word ‘novell’ means young, inexperienced, a first-timer, or a newcomer.

The "vi Novell" is the first wine of the harvest and is bottled in November, around the same time as the pig slaughter festival. It’s a young, fresh and fruity wine. A wine that seeks to break free from the usual constraints of the wine world, with its carefree attitude and unconventional spirit.

Limited edition bottles are produced, and it is a wine that is best enjoyed in the first few months of bottling,

To emphasize this ephemeral/temporary concept, a new label design is introduced every year.

The concept is always centered on the background elements of the festival, the pig and its religious connotations.

Packaging Substrate / Materials: Glass Bottle, Paper Label
Printing Process: Digital

We were tasked to brand & design a new sub-brand for John Sleeman's Spring Mill Distillery's new seasonal spirit — "No.01 Spiced Liqueur". The request was to create some that resemble a modern, but bootleg feels to speak to the distillery's prohibition roots from the 1800s. The simplistic look was established within mind that this will carry over onto other seasonal liqueurs, so we had to develop a design system that will accommodate another seasonal liquid of any colour. This was being exclusively sold inside Spring Mill's in-house bar/retail space — why there is a strong connection to the "Ward".

Saltverk flaky sea salt is a crunchy, mineral-fresh Icelandic sea salt produced by only using energy from geothermal hot springs in the northwest of Iceland. The salt-making process is based on a 17th-century old method and leaves zero carbon footprints on the environment.

Bessermachen developed a raw graphic identity that celebrates the natural beauty of the salt flake. The design embodies Iceland, artisanship and nature, and tells the story about the product and its origin at a simple glance. It’s not just salt of incredibly high quality, but it is also made from the purest sources in a sustainable way. Bertolini&Figli

Agency: NEOM
Creative Director: Giacomo Stefanelli
Location: Italy
Project Type: Produced
Client: Bertolini & Figli
Product Launch Location: Italy
Packaging Contents: Torrone sweet
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Carton box
Printing Process: Lithography, foil stamping, embossing

The Bertolini&Figli project arose from two requirements – to abandon the previous name ‘Casa del Dolce’, general and already used by other companies and, at the same time, tell the world that the company is a family company consisting of Fausto Bertolini, the father and founder, who has run the company in recent years with his children Elisabetta, Francesco, Linda and Gabriella, and has always been supported and aided by his wife Patrizia. There was also the need to create a distinctive new brand able to transfer the high added value of all the unique products, particularly the Mandorlato, the best-known and most important one.

The new font of the BERTOLINI&FIGLI logo is intentionally modern with a retro touch recalling company history but also the vision of the new generation looking to the future. The Panton P2253 used for the background recalls sweetness and delicacy but also strength, people’s passion and the natural goodness of all the products.

Design: Loukas Chondros
Creative Director & Food Designer: TAIZO Design
Location: Greece
Project Type: Produced
Client: Kainas Winery
Product Launch Location: Greece
Packaging Contents: Wine
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Glass bottle

As the god of sweet-talking and flattery. Semi-sweet rosé wine with delicate aromas of flowers and white summer fruits treats you with a long-lasting sweet aftertaste. Alongside with the aromas, this wine carries a poet of love with it. A piece of folk poetry that honours the love for a young woman, becomes the message in a bottle that sails away to find her. These poetry lines are the words of a man addressing his beloved. The narrative follows the journey of a message that travels through the sea to hopefully find her. He speaks about their kiss beneath the night sky and the stars. Τhe moon revealed their intimate moment to the sea, the water passed the message to a sailor though his paddle and then he sang about it to a young woman (her).

The label designed to serve this ritual has no glue on the back. The label may be torn off just before consumption. The double-sided tape holds the label ends together onto the bottle through the hole below the surface overlap. You may easily remove the hand-written message from the bottle by using the back-side perforation.

That moment of the day when your eyes take a break to look at the horizon colored in blue, light blue, green and pink, right where the sea meets the sky. Three dinars…three men, Tremonti and Trentinara are the main elements creating the story of “Tredaniele” vineyeards, a project realised by Spazio Di Paolo.
